Our customer offers for sale this 1961 Volvo P1800 Jensen, a classic icon known for its stylish design and robust build. Powered by an 1800cc four-cylinder engine with a manual transmission, this model represents one of the rare Jensen-built P1800s, a British collaboration that produced the earliest units of this Swedish classic. The car was imported from California, where it has had only two previous owners, and has since been restored by the current owner in Denmark. It features new brakes, shock absorbers, and a revised engine.
The exterior has been repainted in its original Volvo color, with newly chrome-plated trim that retains the car’s classic charm. Inside, the cabin has been reupholstered with new leather seats, side trims, and carpeting, restoring its original appeal. The differential has a light, characteristic hum/sound typical for vehicles of this age. The car has some minor wear consistent with its age.
The Volvo P1800 gained fame for its unique combination of Scandinavian and British automotive craftsmanship. While designed by Volvo, early models like this one were produced by Jensen in the UK, adding a touch of British automotive tradition. Its sleek lines and durable mechanics earned the P1800 a reputation as a stylish and reliable touring car. This model also found its way into pop culture as the car driven by Simon Templar in “The Saint,” which only amplified its iconic status. Over the years, the P1800 has become a cherished model among collectors, recognized for both its aesthetic and mechanical resilience. Known for its longevity, some P1800 models have surpassed 1 million miles, showcasing Volvo’s commitment to building cars with enduring quality.
